The IMM is Moving (but not too far)!!

The International Mathematics Master (IMM) was launched in 2019 under an agreement between the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Italy and COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) in Pakistan, as part of the ICTP Affiliated Centre programme. Since then, the IMM has hosted a large number of prestigious international faculty who have taught advanced mathematics courses to a small number of selected students at the CUI Lahore Campus. Every year increasingly talented and committed students have applied to join the IMM and 16 out of 18 students who have graduated in the first two cohorts, in 2021 and 2022,  have been accepted with full scholarships to prestigious postgraduate programmes in Europe and the US, see here.

As per the rules and regulations of ICTP, Affiliated Centres are nominated for a limited number of years and it is therefore with a heavy heart that the IMM is in the process of leaving CUI, where the IMM was born and flourished. The good news is that the ICTP Affiliated Centres have not left Pakistan and not even Lahore. The IMM will be moving, starting September 2023, to the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

On behalf of everyone involved at IMM we would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest and most sincere thanks to the CUI faculty and staff, first and foremost Prof. Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad, former Chair of the Mathematics Department and outgoing IMM local coordinator, who believed in IMM from the beginning and worked tirelessly for its success. We are also thankul to HOD Mathematics Prof. Dr Kashif, Chairperson Mathematics dept. Prof. Dr Shamsul Qamar, Director CUI Lahore Prof. Dr Asad Hussain and Dean of Sciences Prof. Dr Sajid Qamar for their personal interest regarding smooth execution of the Programme. We hope that some level of collaboration and cooperation between CUI and IMM will continue in the future for the benefit of all students in Pakistan.

At the same time, we are of course very excited to be opening a new phase of the IMM journey of development and growth at LUMS. We would like to thank the department of Mathematics at LUMS, in particular Dr Sabieh Anwar, Dean of the Science School,  Dr Imran Anwar, Chair of the Department, and Dr Shaheen Nazir, the incoming IMM local coordinator, for all the work they have put in to smooth the transition and prepare for the launch of IMM-LUMS.
