Ayodeji Farominiyi

I graduated from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria with a First Class (6.7/7.0) degree from the department of Mathematics in the year 2021. My final year project was on Topological Classification of Surfaces which was supervised by Dr. H.P. Adeyemo which introduced me to the world of Algebraic Geometry.

I recently enrolled and successfully completed a virtual mathematics mentorship program which was organized by Mfano Africa in conjunction with the Mathematical Institute, University of oxford. During this program, under the guidance of my mentor, Professor Diletta Martinelli, I studied Complex Algebraic curves. This experience exposed me to the huge difference it makes to work closely with a faculty who teach and research at an international level. I also realized the huge gap that needs to be filled in order to transition seamlessly from undergraduate studies to a more advanced studies of mathematics. Knowing that these align with the mission and vision of the IMM programme makes me believe I made the right choice joining the program.

I am excited by the many ways that study at the International Mathematics Master (IMM) programme would provide for me to advance in the field of algebraic geometry which is currently my area of research interest. It is my hope to be able to apply for, and obtain a PhD in a prestigious institution after this program as this will help me, among other things, get closer to achieving my lifelong dream of imparting knowledge into young Africans, especially Nigerians who have a phobia for Mathematics.
