IMM Pakistan - Inauguration
The International Mathematics Master (IMM) is a relatively new approach to capacity building in mathematics in developing countries. The vision and strategy behind the concept of the IMM are the fruit of decades of experience of the faculty and staff of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and are inspired by, and complement, several existing programs run by ICTP and other organizations.
IN 2019 the Mathematics Department of COMSATS university Islamabad (CUI), Lahore Campus, was awarded the prestigious title of ICTP Affiliated Centre, and on 16 September 2019, a Document of Understanding was signed by the Rector of CUI, Prof Dr Raheel, and the Director of the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Prof Quevedo, to establish a cooperation for the scientific guidance of the programme under the ICTP Mathematics section represented by Prof Luzzatto. The news of the agreement was reported by several news outlets in Pakistan, such as the The News, and relevant organisations such as COMSATS.
A formal inauguration ceremony was held on 30 October 2019 in the suggestive setting of the Lahore campus of CUI, with the participation of the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Stefano Pontecorvo, the Rector of CUI, Raheel Qamar and Scientific Coordinator, Stefano Luzzatto from ICTP.
