Sofia Trejo
I am Mexican. I studied an undergraduate degree in Mathematics at National Autonomous University of Mexico, UNAM.
I was awarded a government scholarship to study a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Warwick in the UK.
After completing my PhD I worked as a Research Associate at the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and at Imperial College London (UK). Currently, I am a lecturer in Mathematics in Mexico.
How would you define your field of study? What is your vision about it? Which are the topics you're most passionate about?
My field of expertise is Dynamical Systems, which studies the evolution of systems over time.
What I find particularly interesting about this field are the fractal structures which appear as limit sets of the dynamics, such as the Mandelbrot set.
Another fascinating topic in dynamics is the study of the renormalization operator and its relation to the topological structures of spaces of functions.
How do you expect your experience in IMM to be? Why did you accept to teach for this project?
I would like the experience to be an academic and personal growth for me and my students.
I believe this experience will broaden my understanding of different cultures and people.
What is your teaching philosophy? What would you like to transmit to your students? How do you motivate them?
I like to work horizontally and collaboratively. I like hearing other's ideas and trying different solutions.
I would like to help my students define their academic paths by identifying their personal interests and strengths.
