Maira Rubab

I learned about the IMM program through a friend who was already pursuing her undergraduate studies at Comsats University. She shared detailed information about the program, and I was immediately attracted to it, particularly because of the generous scholarships and the well-structured curriculum. Although I applied to several other institutions for my master’s in Mathematics and was accepted into some, my top choice remained IMM because I believed that this program offers the best opportunities for future success and enormous knowledge, thanks to its international faculty and advanced coursework.

My experience at IMM has been outstanding. As a member of the 2020-2022 cohort, I fondly remember Douglas Coates as an exceptional tutor and Stefano Luzzatto as a key source of support throughout the program. I would also like to express my gratitude to Diletta Martinelli, who provided invaluable guidance when I was deciding on my thesis project, and helped in reviewing my motivation letter for PhD applications. Lastly, I am deeply appreciative of my IMM supervisor, Maurizio Parton, whose unwavering support made the thesis process stress-free and enjoyable. Additionally, the advanced and rigorous nature of the courses provided me with a profound understanding of the subject, significantly broadening my perspective and enhancing my critical thinking skills.

I am open to exploring various directions upon completing my PhD. While I am keen to continue within academia, I am also enthusiastic about opportunities to collaborate with different companies and contribute to advancements in Data Science. I believe that blending academic insights with practical industry experience can lead to innovative solutions and meaningful impact. Ultimately, I aim to leverage my expertise to drive progress in both research and applied Data Science.

Moving to a new country and managing everything independently has taught me the art of multitasking and significantly boosted my confidence. I now feel mentally stronger and more resilient than ever before. Over the past few years, I have developed a diverse skill set, including effective communication, enhanced problem solving techniques, quick learning, transversal, presentation, and leadership skills, active listening, and motivational skills. One of my notable professional achievements is that I received positive responses to all the scholarship applications I submitted until now. This success underscores my dedication and the value of the skills I’ve acquired, reinforcing my belief in the importance of perseverance and adaptability in achieving career goals.
